S.M.A.R.T. stands for:
      • Specific: the goal should be clear and well-defined;
      • Measurable: the goal should have a way to track progress and success;
      • Actionable: the goal should have a plan and resources to accomplish it;
      • Relevant: the goal should align with your values and priorities;
      • Time bound: the goal should have a deadline or time frame.

Drafting a S.M.A.R.T. Goal (for Hostinger Help Center as an example)

Add Support for a New Language (Simplified Chinese)

      • Specific: Add support for Simplified Chinese to Hostinger's Help Center by translating all the content and user interface elements.
      • Measurable: Track the progress by the number of pages and elements translated and the percentage of Chinese-speaking visitors to the help center.
      • Actionable: Make sure that linguists are professional to translate the content and a localization tool to adapt the user interface elements.Testing the website for functionality and readability in Simplified Chinese is also a must.
      • Relevant: This goal is relevant because it will help the vendor reach a larger and more diverse audience and increase their website traffic and revenue.

      • Actionable: Research and compare different localization vendors based on their credentials, portfolio, reviews, and rates. Also conduct a trial project with the selected vendor and evaluate their performance and deliverables.
      • Relevant: This goal is relevant because it will help the company to improve the quality and efficiency of localization process and enhance the user experience and satisfaction of the customers and stakeholders.
Timeline & Milestones
        • Week 1-2: Research and compare different localization vendors, shortlist the top three candidates and contact them.
        • Week 3-5: Conduct a trial project with the selected vendor and evaluate their performance and deliverables.
        • Week 6: Negotiate the contract and terms with the vendor and finalize the agreement.
        • Week 7 and after: Onboard the vendor and provide them with the necessary training and resources.

      • Specific: Put in place a quality model that can measure and improve the quality of all the translations and localization of the site's products and services.
      • Measurable: Measure the quality by using quantitative and qualitative metrics, such as error rates, customer feedback, linguistic accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and usability check.
      • Actionable: Design and implement a quality model based on the best practices and standards in the industry. Meanwhile, establish a quality assurance team and a quality control process to monitor and enhance the quality of the translations and localization.
      • Relevant: This goal is relevant because it will help to ensure the quality and consistency of the products and services across different languages and markets and increase the trust and loyalty of the services customers and stakeholders.

Drafting a S.M.A.R.T. Goal (for this semester's personal goals)

      • Specific: Finish the Advanced Translation Technology Course and successfully train a Machine Translation Engine.
      • Measurable: Measure the quality by using quantitative and qualitative metrics, such as error rates, linguistic accuracy, and usability check.
      • Actionable: Select dataset, clean them and design, implement a process for the best practices. Build, train and tune the machine translator step by step according to the course syllabus.
      • Relevant: This goal is relevant because it will help me to successfully finish the course, establish a foundation for my technology background, and graduate from MIIS with helpful and useful knowledge of localization industry.
Timeline & Milestones
        • Week 1-4: Learn basic knowledge of NMT, assemble a group to draft the proposal.
        • Week 5: Schedule a meeting with professor to check feasibility. 
        • Week 6-13: Build, train and tune the model. Check the quality and constantly update for changes in order to train a better model.
        • Week 14-15: Do a reflection report and summary what we have learnt from this project.
